They known as the heavy-antlered 14-point buck “Moose.” And the Iwashige household had been after the outsized Kansas whitetail for the reason that youth season opened in September.
“We had been getting path digital camera images of some bucks at one spot, then a brand new, huge buck confirmed up, and he grew to become our goal,” Grant Iwashige tells Outside Life. “My 10-year-old son, Wyatt, had already taken a buck within the youth deer season. So, my 7-year-old son, Ryker, was gonna attempt for Moose with a crossbow.”
On Nov. 9, Grant and his two sons have been looking from a floor blind on a pal’s 240-acre farm northwest of Wichita. They’d gotten path cam images of Moose that day and knew they have been in the suitable spot.

“We had gotten two path cam images, one within the [morning], and the opposite throughout the afternoon,” Grant says. “We knew Moose was inside 20 yards of the blind once we bought into it that Saturday afternoon.”
Ultimately, the three hunters noticed Moose stroll away simply 10 yards from them. The buck was upwind, and Grant needed it to note the buck decoy they’d out in entrance of the blind, so he rattled.
“Moose stopped, listened, pinned his tail between his legs, and bolted away,” says Grant. However he believed the buck would come again, and half-hour later, he did.
