Electric bicycles – or eBikes – are gaining a lot of traction in the hunting community as they have proven themselves to be more than capable for our needs of scouting, hunting, and even recovering game from the field. The torque, battery life, and speed that is available is truly astounding. It has now become a game of “what is best for you” as opposed to “do these things work” (hell yeah, they work!). One of the preeminent leaders in this space for outdoorspeople is Bakcou. With everything from eBikes, eMoto, and eScooters available, they have everything to satisfy your outdoor needs from the ranch patio to a precarious hunting ridge and everything in between. It simply begs the question of “what is right for you” knowing that the sky is the limit in price and performance. So, what if you did go after that upper echelon of eBikes? Would you get the return on investment? We are going to answer those questions today as we take a look at the Bakcou Mule SD 26 in a Matte Army Green colorway to see how it performs. Let’s dive in!

Assembly – Bakcou Mule SD 26 in Matte Army Green
If you go ahead and purchase one of the Bakcou Mule SD 26 eBikes, you are going to have some assembly needed for yourself, but we promise it is not bad at all (nothing like IKEA furniture, for sure). While this eBike is comprised of a lot of moving parts, you thankfully don’t have to assemble it from scratch.
You can start by cracking open your cardboard box; either from the top (which I did to get this beautiful bike back to the good folks at BakCou) or cutting into the side will allow you to more easily pull the heavy parts out.
I started out by getting all the bits and pieces out of the box, on the ground, and in front of me. This will be tools that are included, a charger, foot pedals, and some other small components, none of which you want to misplace or lose.
If you’re looking for a step-by-step process of how to assemble this eBike, I will leave that to Bakcou to explain in their wonderful video below. It is not difficult by any means. It is simply procedural and you want to do things in the correct order and the right manner. It ended up taking me probably 20 – 30 minutes to assemble my Ebike, and I did not read the directions.
Field Use – Bakcou Mule SD 26 in Matte Army Green
What is truly important is how did the Bakcou Mule SD 26 in a Matte Army Green colorway perform?… For this review, I used this eBike for close to 2 months and attempted to ride it across a lot of varying terrain. This eBike got assembled in a parking lot, and once it was properly assembled, I set about seeing how fast it could go (obviously). To my dismay, it only went, like 8 MPH… I quickly realized I had it in “Class 1,” or the lowest (most tame) setting possible. I quickly read the manual and watched some supplementary videos that Bakcou has on the subject to remedy this situation. After bumping up the eBike to “Unlimited,” the beast was unleashed!

I was able to clock startling speeds. Speeds that I did not know eBikes were capable of:
- 21.1 MPH – Gravel road, uphill
- 32.8 MPH – Gravel road, downhill
- ~39 MPH – Paved asphalt road, downhill

The Bakcou Mule SD 26 isn’t just fast though, it is also stealthy. I repeatedly was able to sneak up on whitetail deer and turkeys in broad daylight because this eBike is so quiet and quick. You can cover a lot of ground fast while simultaneously not drawing attention to yourself.
The display screen doesn’t photograph well, but I found it to be very easy to read and see even in bright sunlight conditions. I also took this thing for a spin in some rain showers and water beads off and doesn’t obstruct what you need to see while using the Mule SD 26.
I found the seat to be very comfy, even during long sessions of using the eBike.
The tires have hefty tread and could easily chew through thick mud, a forest stream, and even clumped-up, tall, heavy grass. I never felt “bogged down” no matter what terrain and obstructions I attempted to drive over.
The brakes for both the front and rear tires, as well as the throttle, were very responsive. I never felt any lag or lack of engagement when you’d use them. I found that reassuring. Whether you needed to speed up for something, or come to a grinding halt.
As someone who doesn’t simply like to be in the outdoors, but loves to hunt as well, I also appreciated the modular rack on the rear tire to tie a bag to or other gear that I might be toting out in the field with me.
Pros and Cons
I have a lot of positives to gush about for this eBike. I have played with a ton of the new eBikes geared towards hunters at trade shows and now am looking to accomplish more thorough reviews for ya’ll here on AllOutdoor like this. So, for me personally, I see it like this:
Pros
- Incredibly Fast, Strong – Torque when you need it
- Responsive – Great brakes and throttle
- Ease of Use – I’m anti reading the directions, and this has been easy to use
- Capable – Can conquer any terrain I attempted
- Supportive – Good seat and shocks for a pleasant ride
- Long Battery – 120+ miles of range, which is amazing
Cons
- Price – The sticker of $5,799 could be a barrier for a lot of people
- Needs a Wheel Well Guard on Front Tire – Had a lot of rain hit my face on rainy days from the front tire
Final Thoughts
So, what are my final thoughts on the Bakcou Mule SD 26 in a Matte Army Green colorway?… Overall, I absolutely loved this eBike! I probably had 10+ friends and even strangers try riding it because it was the “talk of the town” everywhere I went. I rode it through my city to hit up a food truck, I took it through the middle of a lush Minnesota forest with zero trails present, and it had some good ol’ fun on my parents ranch. It exceled everywhere.
The only points of constructive criticism that I could conjure up are the price and a wheel well cover for the front tire. If you’re busting through a wet field 20+ MPH, you’re likely to get a bit of water on your face (all in a speedy day’s work). And while everyone might see the Mule SD 26 as being expensive, I would view it through the lens of being an investment.
If you’re someone who hunts National Parks, public wildlife refuges, or parcels that simply do not allow for gas-motorized vehicle traffic, then you need this! The technology and power that is infused in the Mule SD 26 exceeded even my expectations, and I play with eBikes semi-routinely. If you’re more price-conscious or don’t envision yourself using an eBike that much, then I’d definitely refer you to some of the more affordable options that they have on their Website.
In closing, I want to say thank you to Bakcou for allowing AllOutdoor and myself the opportunity to try out their Bakcou Mule SD 26 in Matte Army Green colorway. That is greatly appreciated.
