Daiwa is doing it again by refreshing and enhancing its tried-and-true Ballistic line of spinning reels with the new and improved 2025 Ballistic MQ LT. This saltwater or freshwater-ready spinning reel features Daiwa’s proprietary monocoque (MQ) frame, a single-piece chassis that is incredibly lightweight, rigid, durable, and corrosion-resistant. The ZAION V MQ carbon fiber frame also offers improved waterproofing with fewer points for water intrusion.

The LT in Ballistic MQ LT stands for “Light Tough” the minimalist technology plan from Daiwa that allows for a physically smaller reel that still has plenty of strength. The MQ frame, with Daiwa’s Tough Digigear, and the AIRDRIVE system make for a lightweight, compact, but strong reel. Capable of putting out plenty of drag pressure and holding a lot of line. Beyond functionality, the new 2025 Ballistic MQ LT has been cosmetically refreshed with a regal metallic blue and red blend color scheme along with a compressed EVA handle. DAIWA’s Ballistic MQ LT is available in sizes 1000 to 4000, capable of handling the smallest panfish and trout on up to inshore predators like snook and juvenile tarpon.
“You have to hold the reel in your hand to really appreciate the comfortable compactness,” said Mills. “For example, a 3000-size Ballistic MQ LT feels better fitted and more manageable than a reel said to be the same size from other manufacturers. Then, open the bail and start spinning and you’ll be sold on the total technological package that goes into this special reel.”
