Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! This Shiloh-Sharps Model 1874 is one of three rifles built specifically for Tom Selleck in the cult classic “Quigley Down Under.” Manufactured in Montana, it features the distinctive gold-inlaid “M/Q” initials on the receiver and a custom 15¼-inch length of pull to fit Selleck’s frame. The 34-inch octagon barrel is chambered in .45-110, the same caliber showcased in the film’s memorable marksmanship scenes. After filming, Selleck kept all three rifles before donating this one to an NRA fundraiser in 2006. Complete with hooded front sight, semi-buckhorn rear, double set triggers, and vernier peep sight, this rifle represents the perfect marriage of Hollywood and traditional firearms craftsmanship. The film’s popularity led Shiloh to add a “Quigley Model” to their catalog, influencing a generation of single-shot enthusiasts. This auction came with accompanied by a signed photo from Selleck: “For Jim/Hope you enjoy the/rifle. Much Obliged/Tom Selleck/’M.Q.’”
